| "Look at these flowers," continued the master, pointing to the lilies that grew in the garden. They are born in the dung, however, they are pure and fragrant. They extract from the malodorous manure everything that is useful and healthy for them, but they do not allow the sourness of the earth to stain the freshness of its petals. It is right to agonize over your own faults, but it is unwise to allow the vices of others to bother you. Their defects are theirs and not yours. If they're not yours, there's no reason to be bothered. Exercise, therefore, the virtue of rejecting all evil that comes from without.
